The 14th National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (NFJPIA) Regional Mid-Year Convention was held last September 27-29, 2013 at the Embarcadero de Legazpi, Legazpi City, Albay, with the theme: Dayaw 2013: Connecting Cultures through the Language of Business. Twenty (20) participants from the College of Business and Accountancy of the University of Nueva Caceres met and competed with the participants from six other schools in the region namely: Bicol University, Divine Word College of Legazpi , Mabini Colleges, Camarines Norte State College, Aquinas University of Legazpi and University of Saint Anthony. A total of one hundred eleven (111) members of the Institute from the said schools showcased their talents and intelligence in various academic and nonacademic contests.
The UNC-JPIA landed as the over-all second placer in the Academic League of the Convention. It summed the victory of the following delegates: Mharc Djan Dela Vega, Second Place in the in the SGV & Co., Cup (CPA Board subjects); Jonalyn Namoro, Third Place in the Meet the Standards Quiz (Philippine Accounting Standards); the team of Maria Kissa Alejandro, Jonalyn Namoro and Paul Jheed Julian, Second Place in the “Blue Feather Society General Information Quiz Interactive”; the group of Iris Zerah Seechung, Maria Sushmita Malaya, Janice Olitoquit, and Iris Buenaventura, First Place in the “Mark Francis G. Ng and CBEM CSC Executive Challenge” (Finance, Economics and Marketing subjects); Mara Relunia, Second Place in the Executive Encounter Quiz which was participated by the Local Chapter Heads; and Maria Sushmita Malaya, Second Place in the Essay Writing Competition..
On the other hand, non-academic contests became the avenues for the UNC-JPIAns to flaunt their talents and skills. This etched the name of UNC in the Over-All Second Place. The venue was filled with laughter and cheers when Aerron John Bacolo, Roderick Belir and Jenneca Vargas performed a parody of “You Belong with Me” by Taylor Swift Music Video in the “MTV Spoof Competition” in which they ranked First Place. Maria Kissa Alejandro bagged the First Place in Interpretative Reading after captivating the crowd with her enunciation and diction. Mharc Djan Dela Vega won First Place in Vocal Solo and won Third Place in Vocal Duet with Maria Kissa Alejandro. Moreover, Maria Lourdes Baylon got the First Place in the Feature Writing Contest while Edgar Paolo Bautista won the Third Place. Mr. Bautista also won the Second Place in the News Writing Contest. And Janice Olitoquit won the Second Place in the Photojournalism Contest.
The highlight of the Mid-year Convention was the Search for Mr. and Ms. Ambassador of Goodwill 2013. It was participated by five pairs of beauties and gents from USANT, DWCL, AUL, BU and UNC. Ms. Shiela Biñas, the candidate of University of Nueva Caceres garnered Second Runner Up and Ms. Congeniality while her partner Mr. Abelardo Francisco was chosen as Mr. Congeniality. The talent competition was held in the LCC Event Center, LCC Mall Legazpi while the coronation night was held in the Embarcadero de Legazpi Freedom Plaza.
The UNC delegates were headed by the JPIA adviser, Mr. Joel Quintos and JPIA UNC Chapter President, Mara Relunia.
The Mid Year Convention was spearheaded by the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants- Region V Council Officers and was hosted by Divine Word College of Legazpi, Bicol University, and Aquinas University of Legazpi. The winners of the SGV & Co., Cup, Meet the Standards and MTV Spoof Competition will advance to the National Mid-Year Convention on October 22-25, 2013 at Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
