The Colleges of Business and Accountancy, and Arts and Sciences of University of Nueva Caceres, Council of Deans for Business Education (CODBE) Reg. V and the Council of Deans and Department Chairs for Colleges of Arts and Sciences (CODDCAS) Reg. V sponsored an Academic Colloquium with the theme “Social Responsibility, Environmental and Organizational Sustainability” on January 10, 2014 at Villa Caceres Hotel, Naga City.
There were 49 participants from 15 schools in the Bicol Region and 1 from Indonesia, the Ahmad Dahlan University. The schools in Bicol which were represented by the deans and faculty members were: University of Nueva Caceres, Ateneo de Naga University, Universidad de Sta. Isabel, Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology , Naga College Foundation, Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, Partido State University, University of Saint Anthony, University of North Eastern Philippines, Mabini Colleges, Catanduanes State University, Divine Word College of Legazpi, Bicol College, Bicol University and Aquinas University of Legazpi.
In addition, the Dean and two faculty members of the College of Business and Accountancy of Ahmad Dahlan University, Yogyakarta Indonesia were among the attendees. Ahmad Dahlan University and University of Nueva Caceres have an outstanding MOU on academic cooperation which started in 2010.
The highlights of this whole-day activity were the keynote message, technical sessions and research paper presentations.
The keynote message was given by the Naga City Planning Officer, Mr. Wilfredo B. Prilles. His talk premised on the responsibility of the academe to bring education outside of its circle. He emphasized that influence and difference should be felt by the community for them to reap the benefits of development.
The first technical session was about “Social Responsibility Towards Environmental and Organizational Sustainability”. The resource speaker in this session was Mr. Ryan Whisnant. He holds a BS in Environmental Engineering from Northwestern University, an MS in Natural Resources and Environment, and MBA from the University of Michigan, where he focused on sustainable systems and organization development.
“CSR with Local Governments in Indonesia: Ahmad Dahlan University Experience” was the topic of the second technical session and the resource speaker was Mr. Rai Rake Setyawan. He is the Chairman of the Center of Development for Economics and Faculty of Economics in Ahmad Dahlan University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He is a holder of a Graduate Diploma in Business Information Systems from the School of Management Information Systems, Edith Cowan University, Perth, Australia; also a graduate of Master of Service Administration from the University of Notre Dame,Fremantle, Australia.
Each technical session was followed by research paper presentations. The presenters were: Dr. Dimson M. Rivero of Universidad de Sta. IsabeI on “Sustainable Strategies for Green Businesses in Naga City”; Dr. Delfin A. Bondad of Universidad de Sta. IsabeI on “Inventory and Accounting of Greenhouse Gases Emissions at Universidad de Santa Isabel”; Dr. Agapito C. Rubio, Jr. of Ateneo de Naga University on “Entrepreneurial Marketing Dynamics for Small Business Sustainability”; Mr. Ryan D. Bastareche of University of Nueva Caceres on “Corporate Social Responsibility: Its level of Integration and Effect on Competitiveness of the Pharmaceutical Industry in the Bicol Region”, and Dr. Herbert B. Rosana of Bicol University on “The ‘School of Peace’ as a Model for an Education for a Culture of Peace”.
This activity was spearheaded by Dr. Nora Elizabeth F. Maniquiz, Dean of the College of Business and Accountancy, University of Nueva Caceres and the Auditor of the CODBE Reg. V; Dr. Debbie A. Adriano, Dean of the College of Business and Accountancy, Ateneo de Naga University and the President of the CODBE Reg. V; and Dr. Josephine B. Alba, Dean of Arts and Sciences, University of Nueva Caceres and the President CODDCAS Reg. V.
