This year, as in the past, another UNCean made it as one of the regional winners in the Regional Selection of the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP) 2013- Region V. John Paul A. Taday, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduate (March 2013), emerged as one of the four regional winners in the prestigious search for outstanding students from among the leading universities and colleges in the Bicol Region. The Awarding Ceremony was held last May 21, 2013 at Mariners Polytechnic Colleges, Rawis, Legazpi City. Taday, along with the other regional winners, will vie for the TOSP National Selection sometime this year.
An exemplary student leader, John Paul Taday is known for his selfless community service and advocacies as evidenced by the community service projects that he organized, notable of which was the “Thousand Paper Bag Campaign” advocating the use of biodegradable paper bags instead of plastic bags by the vendors at the Naga City People’s Mall. He is a recipient of the following awards: UNC Student Leadership Award, Ten Outstanding Students of Bicol 2013 and Raul Roco Youth Achievement Award 2010 & 2012. He was a delegate to the 14th Ayala Young Leaders Congress 2012 and Area Finalist, Bayer Young Environmental Envoys 2012. He is the founder and former president of the Junior Trainers Circle-Servatrix, UNC chapter.
The Search for Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines is an annual recognition of graduating college students who have not only excelled academically, but have also dedicated their talents and leadership abilities in making a difference by becoming socially involved in their respective communities, organizations and fields of interests for the greater good of their respective communities.
The annual search is sponsored by the RFM Foundation in collaboration with RFM Corporation, Commission on Higher Education, National Bookstore Inc., and Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company. (AAFullante)
