UNCean Joshua Arsenio V. Espiritu III won the Search for Jose Rizal Model Students of the Philippines (JRMSP) 2016. Awarding was held on Rizal Day, December 30, 2016, at the Ceremonial Hall, Knights of Rizal International Headquarters, Manila. Espiritu is among the Top Ten winners in this prestigious search for outstanding students in the country who are recognized for their multifaceted Rizalian excellence manifested in academic distinction, campus leadership and community engagement. The winners are also selected for best emulating our National Hero’s lofty ideals, civic virtues and courageous nationalism.
Joshua is in his senior year in college taking up Bachelor of Elementary Education major in Special Education. He is currently the president of the University Student Government where he takes the lead in various school and community projects and activities. Considered as the best in his league, he was Rank 1 in the Search for Ten Outstanding Bicolano Students (TOSB) in March 2016. This award is given to outstanding Bicolano students who have shown exemplary performance in academics, leadership and service. In the College of Education where his leadership skills were honed through active involvement in extra-curricular activities, he was a recipient of the Leadership Award during the 14th Golden Torch Award in March 2016 and Outstanding Education Student in 2015. He was a delegate to the 17th Ayala Young Leaders Congress (AYLC) in February 2015. His AYLC leadership experience developed his passion for service. He is committed and passionate in various youth-related advocacies such as education for the out-of-school youth and children with special needs and youth participation in governance in his hometown in Bula, Camarines Sur.
While being active in campus leadership and community engagement, Joshua has maintained academic excellence from elementary to college. Always at the top of his class, he graduated as Class Valedictorian at the Iriga Seventh-Day Adventist Elementary School in 2008. He was likewise, the Class Valedictorian at the Baao National High School Special Program for the Arts in 2012. In college, he is a recipient of undergraduate academic honors and a consistent academic scholar. He has garnered various awards in music, arts and academic competitions both in the regional and national levels.
The search for Jose Rizal Model Students of the Philippines is sponsored by the Order of the Knights of Rizal, a non-political, non-sectarian organization created by law to propagate Rizalian ideals and teachings throughout the country. (AAFullante)
