Cristia Shiena S. Amparo, a BSE graduate of the College of Education, won the regional search for Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP) in Bicol for 2017. She is among the four regional winners who will vie for the national selection sometime this year. The University of Nueva Caceres was also awarded a Certificate of Recognition for its commitment to outstanding academic performance, leadership and social responsibility of its students. The Awarding Ceremony was held last May 29, 2017 at Avenue Plaza Hotel in Naga City.
Ms. Amaro graduated at the top of her class as Summa Cum Laude on March 2017. Along with her exemplary academic performance is her active involvement in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities taking on various leadership roles. She also initiated various social entrepreneurship projects such as Project USUAG and the Rugstory which are designed to uplift the lives of the out-of-school youth and marginalized families in Barangay Sua in Camaligan, an adopted community of the university. These projects, which are sustainable and have social and economic benefits, improved the quality of life of the socially disadvantaged groups in the adopted community by empowering them with entrepreneurial action that can transform their lives.
Earlier, Ms. Amparo was also a recipient of the following awards in recognition of her commendable academic performance, student leadership and social involvement: UNC Leadership Award, Ten Outstanding Students of Bicol and Ten Outstanding Student Teachers of Region V.
The Search for Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines is an annual recognition of graduating college students who have not only excelled academically, but have also dedicated their talents and leadership abilities in making a difference by becoming socially involved in their respective communities, organizations and fields of interests for the greater good of their constituents.
The annual Search for Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines is sponsored by the RFM Foundation, RFM Corporation and Commission on Higher Education in cooperation with the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company and the National Book Store, Inc. (AAFullante)
