The Graduate School as a department was created in 1953,
five years after the foundation of the University of Nueva
Caceres in 1948. Called the Graduate Department for Education
it was primarily created to meet the needs of teachers
who wanted to acquire skills and competence in teaching.
Necessarily, the courses offering under each program were
those in the field of Education.
Responsive as always to the needs of its clientele, the
graduate school has expended its program both in the masteral
and doctoral levels along fields of management and public
adminstration with emphasis on research. Cognizant of
the role of graduate education establishing societal equilimbrium
derived from findings of researches written by scholars,
it has dedicated itself to stimulating, encouraging and
producing functional researches geared towards the developmental
goals of the country at large and the Bicol Region in
particular.
On the other hand, the Graduate School under its many
program contains provisions for the acquisition of skills
or training for a profession, critical thinking and development
of analytical perspective.
General Aims in the Various Disciplines
The school of Graduate Studies aims to develop a high
degree of intellectual and professional competence so
as to produce individuals who are scholarly, creative
and fully equipped for leadership functions and productive
work in the disciplines of Teachers Education, Environmental
Science, and Physical Sciences.
Specific Objectives
To develop qualified individuals to be effective instruments
of inquiry.
To improve competence in teaching, supervision, administration,
management, physical and environmental sciences, business
and public administration and library science.
To estimate, encourage and produce researches relevant
to the development goals of the region and the country.
To broaden awareness of one's role in the transmission,
preservation and enrichment of our national legacies.
To sharpen and strengthen appreciation for our historical,
literary and cultural heritage and thus clarify and enhance
national unity through diversities.
