UNC DEAN OF BUSINESS AND ACCOUNTANCY ATTENDS INTERNATIONAL CONFAB


UNC’s Dean of the College of Business and Accountancy, Dr. Nora Elizabeth F. Maniquiz, attended the EDS International Residential Professional CEO Program in Penang, Malaysia form July 18-24, 2009. She participated in the program as a scholar and distinguished guest upon the invitation of EDS Advance Academy, an international center for the executive and lifelong learning. EDS Advance Academy was founded by Dr. Ben Lee of Malaysia in 2002, and has since then become a premier training and executive development organization, satisfying a rapidly growing demand for skills development training among academia, business owners, professionals, engineers and executives in the Asia-Pacific Region. EDS currently operates executive development seminars and networking activities in Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Macedonia and California, USA, and is best known for providing stare-of-the-art training in management principles and practices through its unique executive open learning program.

There were 88 participants who came all the way from Vietnam, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Maldives, Bosnia, Macedonia, Ghana (Africa), and the Philippines. Participants from Malaysia were also present, including members of Parliament and the Senate.

While in Penang, and upon authorization form UNC Administration, Dr. Maniquiz had the opportunity on initiating talks regarding collaboration and international linkages between UNC and other institutions abroad. Possible areas of collaboration were explored along joint research projects, faculty and student exchange, and visiting professor arrangements. The following academic institutions expressed their desire to have such networking and collaboration with the UNC: Ahmad Dahlan University (Yogyakarta, Indonesia), University of Science and Technology Chittagong (Dhaka, Bangladesh), Ambassadors College (Ghana, Africa), and EDS Advance Academy (Penang, Malaysia). Talks are now ongoing, and MOU’s are expected to be finalized before the end of first semester of this school year.
